Our first day has been a busy one. We landed at 5.15am (7.15 SA time). After disembarking we immediately had to get on a high speed train to get to Terminal 5 to get through passport control. That took an hour. Then we went to claim our luggage and went through Customs. Avis car rental was four stories up in an elevator in a freezing parking lot. Luckily their office was heated!
We left the airport in our car at 7.15 local time ...in the dark! Fortunately we had upgraded our car to one with a satnav system. This really has helped! The roads are also fairly well marked.
We headed off towards Oxford. Then sun slowly crept up over the horizon and by the time we were passing through Oxford just after 8am, it was light. The traffic coming into London was horrific, fortunately opposite to us!
We arrived in Bibury after taking one accidental scenic detour and found our little cottage fairly easily. It is so quaint and the village of Ablington where we are staying is so small, that it seems to fall under the umbrella of Bibury. A local told Leon there are only 20 families staying in Ablington.
When we arrived at 10am the car read -1degree c outside. By the afternoon it was a much warmer 7 degrees!

There were still patches of snow here and there left from last week’s severe snow. The same local told us the roads were still closed just 3 days ago. So glad we weren’t here a week earlier!
Blogging on an iPad is not fun! I am struggling to post pictures and edit!
There are warnings out for fog for tonight and tomorrow morning. So we will wake up and see what tomorrow brings. Maybe a late start due to the fog? We are certainly looking forward to a good sleep!
Update*... I can't post photos! I have put some on Instagram. Will see if I can figure out the posting of photos from my iPad later when we get back.
We're planning on hitting the Swindon Outlet Mall this morning for some retail therapy....
Hoping the forecast fog doesn't arrive. So far so good. It's 7h19 and still pitch dark so can't tell yet. Though it looks clear. Woke up at 3am! Internal alarm clock told me it's 5am at home!
